Astronomy outreach to Himali Secondary Boarding School, Bhorletar, Lamjung

Pokhara Astronomical Society successfully conducted outreach program outside the valley in Himali Secondary Boarding School, Bhorletar, Lamjung on January 5, 2015. Mr. Mahesh Thakuri, President of PAS, presented his talks on Solar System Wonders and Night Sky Observation Techniques. More than hundred students of average age groups 15 to 16 years participated on the programs; Workshop on the fascinating Moon, The world of Constellation was demonstrated among the students and teachers by Mr. Suman Gautam, the student ambassador for EU-UNAWE.  The workshop program was followed by the Night Sky observation session.

Astronomy outreach to Ganodaya Boarding School Rankhola, Syangja,

Two days workshop followed by water rocket events was successfully conducted on Ganodaya Boarding School Rankhola, Syangja, which is 50 km south from the valley on December 4 and 5, 2014. Three different Events were organized to three different levels, Primary, Lower Secondary and Secondary. “Workshop on Fascinating moon”, “Constellation model” followed by Solar observation was conducted to the primary level students of average age (8 years ) ,“Earth – Sun Relation” and presentation on  “Mars Exploration History” was conducted to the respective levels to give the  concept on Astronomy. Program was inaugurated by the chairman Mr Ganu Thakuri by playing the message from Erik Arends from International office. Program was conducted by Suman Gautam Project Coordinator of PAS and member Ashish Poudel with support from EU-UNAWE.

United Nations Austria Symposium 2014

Nepal had a successful participation in United Nations/ Austria Symposium on “ Space Science and the United Nations”  Co-sponsored by European Space Agency  (ESA), Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), Austrian  Academy of Science, City of Graz, Austrospace , state of Styria,  Austrian Ministry for Transport Innovation and Technology from 22-24th September 2014. More than 50 participants, from 40 countries had participated on Symposium highlighted on arrays of topics on, Space Science activities and the possible role of United Nations. Suman Gautam from Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) and Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS) had presented his paper on the examples of space science capacity buildings activities conducted in Nepal .The Symposium was concluded by discussing on the future space science activities in the framework of United Nations. All symposium participants had review the symposium and recommend a report for the implementation of future space science activities, which is discussed on the UN General Assembly on February 2105.The symposium was chaired by Werner Balogh from United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

Pokhara Yuri's Night Star Party is the special event going to be organized by Pokhara Astronomical Society in April 12, 2014 in Chhunumunu Ghar (In front of Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City Office), Newroad Pokhara. Last year in 2013 the same event was organized in Prithvi Narayan Campus in April 12, which became very successful with the participation of 150+ participants. It is also the continuation of public outreach program designed by PAS to enhance the people about science literacy. Pokhara Yuri’s Night Star Party consist of series of very interesting events where people will enjoy the specialty of the night, wander with star gazing, eat, drink, sing and dance. This is the celebration of humanity in exploring the space for the very first time in April 12, 1961. A special night where people will enjoy the beauty of sky and the universe around the world and in Pokhara on the human achievement in space.

Nepal had successful participation in 23rd UN/IAF Workshop and 64th IAC Beijing, China 2013.


23rd United Nations/International Astronautical Federation Workshop on " Space Technologies Applied to the Economic development  during September 20 - 22, 2013 Beijing, china in Conjunction with  & The 64th International Astronautical Congress( IAC), 23 - 27 September, 2013 remained a good place to share the space activities in Nepal. This was possible as Mr. Gautam participated and presented his paper in these events.

During the workshop, Mr. Gautam actively participated in the
discussion on how Space Science can be used on Disaster Management, Agriculture and  Land Management and discussed the issued where space science had been great help to manage the resources in Nepal. Also he discussed about the different institutions that are using space science & its applications in Nepal. He also presented his paper on "Space Science Education,  Activities and Their Impact in Nepal" during the workshop on September 20-22, 2013.

IAC is one of the biggest event on space science in the world. Nepal first participated in IAC in 1998 and then 2003. Since 2009, Nepal has been able to show its continuous presence to IAC with  its enthusiastic youths.

Mr. Gautam is  the founder President of Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS) and Vice- Chair at Global hands on Universe Nepal Chapter.

National Workshop on Astrophysics and Astronomy (NWAA 2013)

PAS president and vice chairman GHOU Nepal Chapter Mr. Suman Gautam successfully take part in the National Workshop on Astronomy and astrophysics (NWAA 2013) from 25-28 june organized by Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University. This program was funded by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Participants were familiar with Linux, Matlab, Mathematica, and Python. Programmed was focused on the computational aspects. Oral and Poster Presentation are the main attraction of the program. Mr. Gautam also presented his poster on “Space Science activities in Western Nepal”. The program was conducted by under the chairmanship of  rector T.U. Ghuna Nidhi Neupane.
