Nepal had successful participation in 23rd UN/IAF Workshop and 64th IAC Beijing, China 2013.


23rd United Nations/International Astronautical Federation Workshop on " Space Technologies Applied to the Economic development  during September 20 - 22, 2013 Beijing, china in Conjunction with  & The 64th International Astronautical Congress( IAC), 23 - 27 September, 2013 remained a good place to share the space activities in Nepal. This was possible as Mr. Gautam participated and presented his paper in these events.

During the workshop, Mr. Gautam actively participated in the
discussion on how Space Science can be used on Disaster Management, Agriculture and  Land Management and discussed the issued where space science had been great help to manage the resources in Nepal. Also he discussed about the different institutions that are using space science & its applications in Nepal. He also presented his paper on "Space Science Education,  Activities and Their Impact in Nepal" during the workshop on September 20-22, 2013.

IAC is one of the biggest event on space science in the world. Nepal first participated in IAC in 1998 and then 2003. Since 2009, Nepal has been able to show its continuous presence to IAC with  its enthusiastic youths.

Mr. Gautam is  the founder President of Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS) and Vice- Chair at Global hands on Universe Nepal Chapter.

National Workshop on Astrophysics and Astronomy (NWAA 2013)

PAS president and vice chairman GHOU Nepal Chapter Mr. Suman Gautam successfully take part in the National Workshop on Astronomy and astrophysics (NWAA 2013) from 25-28 june organized by Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University. This program was funded by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Participants were familiar with Linux, Matlab, Mathematica, and Python. Programmed was focused on the computational aspects. Oral and Poster Presentation are the main attraction of the program. Mr. Gautam also presented his poster on “Space Science activities in Western Nepal”. The program was conducted by under the chairmanship of  rector T.U. Ghuna Nidhi Neupane.

Outreach at Ram Shah Higher Secondary School, Tanahun

PAS successfully conducted outreach program at Ram Shah Higher Secondary School, Aanboo Khaireni, Tanahun on 30th May 2013. Mr. Suman Gautam and Mr. Mahesh Thakuri, from PAS, specially, talked about the 'Astronomy Education and Its Important', 'Components of Solar System' and 'Curiosity Rover on Mars'. The program was conducted in presence of more than hundred students with their science teachers. Interaction with the students was followed by Astro quiz with using Astro-kit. The program was conducted with Global Hands of Universe-Nepal Chapter.
The teachers of the school were trained to use Galilioscope own by school at night and night sky observation was done.

Pokhara Yuri's Night Star Party 2013

Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS) successfully celebrated its first Yuri's Night Star Party in commemoration of April 12, 1961 when cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin entered the space for the first time in human history. The program was held in Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara, Nepal. More than hundreds students, teachers and public enjoyed the program for three hours. The program was conducted with the support of Creative Science Association (CSA). Mr. Shivaji Tiwari, president of CSA chaired the program where the chief guest was Mr. Nandalal Adhikari, assistance campus chief, institute of Science and Technology, Prithvi Narayan Campus.
The second wall magazine of PAS was inaugurated by chief guest on the program. Mr. Jeevan Lamsal, founder secretary of PAS, hosted the program and he gave his talk about the activities and mission of PAS. Similarly, Mr. Pradip Adhikari introduced the Creative Science Association to the participants. The program was coordinated by Mr. Mahesh Thakuri, founder vice president of PAS, and he gave presentation on  "Pokhara Yuri's Night Star Party 2013". The program became more interesting when Mr. Ashish Sharma started Astro Quiz for the participants and distributed prizes.
Mr. Aditya Lamichhane gave his talks on the topic "Fundamental of Physical Cosmology" where he discussed about the basic components of our universe.
There was a beautiful musical performance by Mr. DInesh Lamsal where he showed his talent by playing his harmonium which made everybody cheerful and enjoy the party. The program was followed by the special documentary show of " First Orbit" about the first journey of Yuri Gagarin, first human to Space.

PAS on Orphan Homes

Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS), a sister organization of Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) successfully conducted the event program on Annapurna self Sustaining Orphan Homes, Batulechour, Pokhara on 3rd March 2013. Altogether 50 Orphans successfully observed the Moon and its surface, Jupiter and its satellites. Night Observation Program was conducted with the help of 3.5 inch Meade Telescope. Night Observation program was started at 5:30 pm to till 7:00pm. President Suman Gautam had given his talks on the technique of Night sky Observation and Vice- president Mahesh Thakuri had given his talks on Solar System. Astro quiz was also conducted and the winner team was awarded with Astro kit.

PAS conducted the observation program at Sarangkot, Pokhara which is in 1500 meters height from the sea level. A group of public from that area had observed the Moon, Jupiter and its satellites.

PAS on Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP-2013)

Galileo Teacher Training 2012 was conducted on SOS Herman Gmeiner School, Gandaki, Pokhara from February 8 – 9. Altogether 50 teachers from Pokhara as well as from outside the valley were participated in the program. Dr. Bonnie Thurber from Northwestern University US, Yao Zhang from Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and NESARC Chairman Er. Krishna Raj Adhiakri from NESARC  was invited to participate and deliver the lecture. The Moon Over us project was conducted by Dr. Bonnie Thurber and the NESARC Chairman Er. Krishna Raj Adhikari delivers the lecture on the Water rocket. The Program was conducted by GHOU- Nepal Chapter and Nepal Astronomical society (NASO). Founder Vice-president of NASO, Mr. Sudeep Neupane had conducted the program. President of PAS Mr. Suman Gautam, Vice-president Mr. Mahesh Thakuri, Sujan Regmi and Secretary Mr. Jeevan Lamsal were the LOC member of the GTTP 2013.

Outreach Activities on Roshani Higher Secondary School, Syangja

PAS successfully conducted its outreach activities at Roshani Higher Secondary School, Syangja on 26 and 27 Feburary, 2013. Astronomy Education and the technique of Night Sky Observation were taught on this program. President Suman Gautam focused on the importance of 'Astronomy Education' and talks about 'Mars Mission' and Vice- President Mahesh Thakuri gave his talks on 'Night Sky Observation Techniques' using Skymaps, Astro -softwares etc. Altogether more than 400 students, teachers and public observed Moon, Jupiter, Stars and Constellations through its own Telescope.
